Adopt a Refugee Teacher in Indonesia

A growing population of refugees is in transition countries where they have no right to work, and their children have no access to education. In Indonesia, the refugees themselves set up schools (called learning centers) where the staff and teachers, who are refugees, volunteer their time.

With US$38 per month, you can positively impact the lives of 20 children who have no right to education. Furthermore, these monthly contributions can cover the volunteer teachers’ travel expenses and meal allowance. Therefore, these teachers can better devote their effort and attention to educating the next generation if their basic needs are met.

Please act now to help color the world of refugee children.

HOPE LEARNING CENTER

Hope Learning Center (HLC) is a refugee-based education center which was established by a group of refugees in Bogor Indonesia in February 2017.

It provides free education for 120 children and health services for over 600 refugees from various countries such as Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Iran, Ethiopia, Somali, Sudan, Yemen and in Cisarua, Bogor.

At HLC, the students are taught standard subjects such as Mathematics, English, Social Studies, Art and Science, and the students are free to choose any other elective subjects they are interested in.

HLC is not affiliated to any religious, political, or specific groups and the staff members are volunteers from the refugee community.

The Refugee Learning Nest (the Nest) was established in March 2015 by seven members of the refugee community in Indonesia with the support of Same Skies.

The project aims to improve the welfare of the refugee community by providing various activities and informal learning.

It is based on volunteer engagement and community involvement.

In 2015, four refugees living in Indonesia gathered members of the local refugee community to share their plan to establish a learning center to provide education to refugee children in the area.

The refugee community was very excited, so together the community joined hands and set up the Refugee Learning Center in September.
